NATIONAL SUPREME SACRIFICE DAY

On March 18th, National Supreme Sacrifice Day honors those who have made tremendous sacrifices for the sake and the good of others as well as those who sacrifice their lives every day for us.

We may most readily call to mind the men and women in uniform who have laid down their lives protecting their country and communities. This day also honors those who may have stepped forward during times of crisis to rescue a stranger or a neighbor and gave the supreme sacrifice that day.

These sacrifices come in many forms. We don’t always recognize them when we see them, nor do we always expect them. Like in the case of one young Miner who saved the lives of 11-year-old Emmet and 8-year-old Myrdith when the sleigh they were in overturned during a blizzard so fierce they couldn’t see their house, though they were only 200 yards away. Wind howling so loudly, they couldn’t hear their father’s voice calling to them. On March 15, 1920, they’d set home from school in rural North Dakota and been caught up in the blizzard. Their 16-year-old sister, Hazel Miner protected her siblings with her body, keeping the blankets in place over her siblings through the night. Hazel Miner died that night, but her actions saved the lives of her siblings.

These sacrifices don’t always come in uniform and are often unsung. Often, these heroes step up when we least expect it and when we need it most.

NATIONAL VET GIRLS RISE DAY

On February 19, National Vet Girls RISE Day recognizes the immense dedication of the nearly 2 million U.S. veteran women.

On National Vet Girls ROCK Day, not only is it a day to recognize women veterans, but it’s a day for women veterans to support one another and to share resources, build relationships and spread awareness concerning the needs of women veterans

The willingness of America’s [Women] veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude. ~Jeff Miller

Since the Revolutionary War, women have served in the armed forces, and many have not been recognized for their service. Today, the contributions of nearly 2 million women veterans deserve acknowledgment. National Vet Girls ROCK Day celebrates the bonds they formed and their experiences through military service.

While we can never truly repay the debt we owe our heroes, the least we should do for our brave veterans is to ensure that the government takes a proactive approach to delivering the services and benefits they have earned, so they can access the care they need and so richly deserve. ~Kirsten Gillibrand

Like thousands of military personnel, support transitioning from military to civilian life develops both their professional and personal success. Honoring their accomplishments, skills, and essential contributions both in the military and civilian fields elevate the place of the woman veteran to her proper position.

From the world wars of Europe to the jungles of the Far East, from the deserts of the Middle East to the African continent, and even here in our own hemisphere, our “women” veterans have made the world a better place and America the great country we are today. ~ John Hoeven

New Year’s Resolutions

Happy 2025

As the New Year approaches, many individuals embrace the tradition of setting resolutions—personal goals aimed at fostering self-improvement and positive change. This practice offers a fresh start, encouraging reflection on past behaviors and the commitment to adopt healthier habits or achieve specific objectives in the coming year. Common resolutions often focus on enhancing physical health, improving financial stability, and fostering personal development.

Among the most popular New Year’s resolutions are:

1. **Improving Physical Health**: Many people resolve to exercise regularly, adopt healthier eating habits, or quit smoking. These commitments are driven by the desire to enhance overall well-being and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

2. **Saving Money**: Financial goals, such as budgeting more effectively, reducing debt, or increasing savings, are common resolutions. Individuals aim to achieve greater financial security and prepare for future needs.

3. **Pursuing Personal Development**: This includes resolutions like learning new skills, reading more, or dedicating time to hobbies. Such goals are pursued to enrich one’s knowledge and enhance personal fulfillment.

While setting resolutions is a widespread practice, maintaining them can be challenging. Studies indicate that a significant number of individuals abandon their resolutions within the first few months of the year. To improve success rates, experts recommend setting realistic and specific goals, creating a structured plan, and seeking support from friends or communities. Utilizing tools like apps for tracking progress can also provide motivation and accountability, increasing the likelihood of sustaining these positive changes throughout the year.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to me! Today, I celebrate another year of growth, laughter, and memories made. I am grateful for the lessons learned, the challenges overcome, and the people who have been a part of my journey. Each year brings new opportunities, and I am excited to see what this one holds. I’ve worked hard to get here, and today is all about celebrating those accomplishments and the person I’m becoming.

After surving a hemoragic stroke in 2013, my life took a drastic turn from where I thought I would be today.  I lost my very good health, the ability to bear children, and my mobility as an independent person.  In spite of the odds I have not only survived, I taught myself how to build this blog, start 2 YouTube channels, and developed, write and produce a digital monthly magazine.  Having lost the ability to work even in a remote capacity had not impeded my aspirations for success.   I truly hope to garner the ability to continue forward with a little help from technology,  family, friends and a fantastic physical therapist.

I’m also looking forward to embracing whatever the future has in store. This year, I’m focusing on setting goals that truly matter to me and on making time for the things that bring me joy. Today, I’m taking a moment to just be present, appreciating the people who care about me, and enjoying the little moments that make life beautiful. Here’s to another fantastic year—filled with growth, happiness, and success!
