National Deviled Egg Day features a favorite hors-d’oeuvre or side dish for parties, holidays, family reunions and potluck dinners. Deviled eggs are the star of the show each year on November 2.
Information on this and many other holidays by https://nationaldaycalendar.com/
This well-loved food wows guests at the holidays. Designers have even created specially designed carrying dishes and plates. The deli section of the grocery store prepares packaged deviled eggs, and they can be found in some convenience stores, too.
Other names for this devilish dish include eggs mimosa, stuffed egg, salad eggs or dressed egg. To make them, hard-boiled eggs are shelled, cut in half and filled with the hard-boiled egg’s yolk. The yolk is mixed with other ingredients such as mayonnaise and mustard.
Eggs are quite versatile when it comes to making simple dishes elegant. The deviled egg is another example of taking the humble egg and transforming it with one or two simple ingredients. The final result is centerpiece-worthy. Colorful relishes, spicy peppers, pimentos or savory herbs, elevate deviled eggs. Additionally, the variety offers entirely new flavor profiles demonstrating just how delicious this family favorite can be.
Other approaches make them a little more creamy with sour cream. Or, a bit more tart with added vinegar. It’s possible to please just about every palate can be satisfied. From the traditional paprika garnish to crunchy bacon, or a little caviar, anchovy or herring, there is some devilish experimenting any cook can do.
As these are a favorite I must admit to liking my homemade recipe the best. This recipe can be elevated with cucumber garnish or a grape tomato. Bacon is also really good. I have yet to try the avocado mix in though I’ve seen plenty of recipes for it. However, I have tried them with pickle relish and/or dill. These do not make my try again list but hey if you like it go for it. I also think chives make a good garnish while adding to the flavor. This is a great way to use those hard boiled Easter eggs. It almost always makes my list for entertaining. Including game days. They are easy to make and store well for a day or two in the fridge.
The first known print reference referring to the term “deviled” about food, appeared in 1786. It was in the 19th century that it came to be used when referring to spicy or zesty food, including eggs prepared with mustard, pepper or other ingredients stuffed in the yolk cavity.

I finally got the finale to load so I could see it. OMG!!! Like so many other accounts/reviews I’ve read I laughed, I cried, sitting on the edge of my seat for what would happen next the entire time.
Bree’s (and Roger’s) baby is beautiful. I ken Roger does not yet know for sure if it’s his, but he loves Bree enough to raise the child as his own. Even knowing about Bonnet, Roger is the better man and will defiantly be the boys father. Bree, from her own experience be able to comfort him on that point. While I wish they had time to show the father, daughter reunion and forgiveness, with everything else going on in this episode I understand not everything could be shown. I think they have forgiven each other. Even with the scene and dialog not shown, I think they convey it when they look at each other. I also bet Jamie got some one on one private time with the baby just like he did with in season 2 with Jenny ‘ s.
Ian’s choice was not an easy one for anyone. I know Jamie and Claire are quite upset by it. Yet you can see both their reluctance and acceptance in thier expressions. This is some really fine acting. Truly you can practically read their thoughts. If anyone holds any doubt about Ian’s choice all one has to do is look back to his fascination with the Indians. It runs so deep he has learned thier language enough to not only understand it but to interpret it as well. If there is any doubt left just look at his face after the gauntlet. Though parting is hard he has become a real man and his worth like Jamie’s is evident in his ability to give his word and mean it.
Roger I’m glad to say by his reunion scene is no longer tetering on the edge of a breakdown. I’m so glad he and Jamie cleared the air. Roger needed to know the whole story, and even though they were trying to protect Bree, Jamie had it coming. He knew it. Men have thier own code and manner of dealing with such emotionally charged issues. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “It’s a guy thing.” Some are very critical of him not being there when the Fraser’s reunite, but honestly with everything that’s happened I truly can’t blame him for wanting a moment without basic survival hanging like a noose over his head to sort it out. Between his physical trama, and the emotional upheavals he’s had in the space of a few weeks and hours the guy needs to catch his breath so to speak. Can you imagine the self castigation, coupled with anger if you had a fight that ended in angry words, then learned after you both storm off in different directions that your partner was attacked, raped, and due to circumstance now blames themselves for the angry words you exchanged in the heat if an arguement? Protecting those we love is an ingrained human response. To learn what happened when they were left alone, for even a short period of time has to weigh heavily on them. Roger is no different than Jenny, Jamie, Claire, or a parent anywhere in the world.
The scenes in the future are both intriguing and satisfying. As I connected it later it bodes well for Ian’s future. Murtagh and Jocasta was also a pleasant suprise. The building tensions and banter between them has hinted that they both have enough fire and spirit see this next twist into the future. The letter will also provide a good dose of fancy footwork in the future. Season 5 cannot get here soon enough and from the questions left and the march of time it’s going to be a wild ride.
I wonder at what point Bree and Roger return to the future? How much more of Otter tooth will we see and learn? Ooh and is Otter tooth related to them? Maybe a decendent in Ians line? With Ian’s acceptance does that make Otter Tooth, part of the Fraser clan many decades later? Is this how he learns of the ability to time travel? It is hinted that the opal stone that causes such strife in the Indian village has some interesting powers.
I’m filling my Droughtlander time with the books and probably an entire re-watch of the show to make it through. Now I just have to convince myself to start at the beginning of the books instead of jumping straight into The Firey Cross. How will you spend yours? Leave a comment below if you are liking these posts and any suggestions or ideas on how to cope until season 5.

Outlander Season 4
Don’t forget Diana ‘ s blog.Don’t forget Diana ‘ s blog.
As most of you know, or now know Outlander TV Series is not only a great show but, incredibly popular as well. Season 4 has come to an end. After which many will be experiencing a phenomena we have dubbed ‘Droughtlander’. Basically it describes the loss felt in the off season of the TV show. Which begs the question after this finale (extended by only 5 minutes), how do you plan to deal with the loss of our favorite Sunday evening show.
Cliff hangers in speculation. What happens during Ian’s time with the Mohawk? Does Lord John come back into thier lives soon? Will Murtagh capture Bonnet again? Will Bonnet get the consequences he so richly deserves? Will we see Jocasta and Murtagh find a happy ending? Don’t forget Furgus and Marseli. How much fun will both Claire and Jamie have with the new children on Frasiers Ridge? I’m open to any and all theories, from the books to just speculation. Share it in the comments below.
If you have read all the books you have at least some idea of what is to come in that version of the storyline. How much the shows writers follow that is as yet undetermined. I’m planning to try and get the reading of the books done before Diana Galabadon release the new one (book 9). Lots of fans are going to re-read the books and either binge watch season 4 for the first time or the entire series again. What about the Lord John Grey books? Several longtime fans have recommended them. So maybe I’ll read those too. So in my quest to both read and acquire the books I’ve come across some info that might be helpful to new readers like myself. If you like this article please like and share on as many social sites as you like.
Lets start with the reading order. Diana Galbadon has published many books so finding where they all fit is important for the timeline of the story. The full listing of proper reading order is on her website, http://www.DianaGabaldon.com or the direct link http://www.dianagabaldon.com/books/chronology-of-the-outlander-series/. I have included both the links to her site as seen above and the links to the books themselves on amazon below. Simply click on the picture of the book and it will take you right to it. There are several formats available on Amazon so you can chose which will satisfy your needs best. All captions and book photos belong to Amazon.com.
Diana keeps a blog as well you can find it here. There are countless fans around the world of both the books and the show. Everything from discussions and reviews of the latest episode, to fan art and licensed merchandise here. In addition to all this if you’re still looking for something to do there are a couple of Authors who write about both historical romance and time travel. Each of these is a novel I have both read and enjoyed. Some may already be in your to be read pile. You can find them here, with links to Amazon, for easy shopping.
While Diana Galbadon can never be replaced, its fun to have other options to read until her next book comes out. I personally keep a list of favorite authors that I check on frequently for new releases. I re-read a lot of my favorites. While I enjoy this, I find myself not sticking with it if I can quote it verbatim. I need a few weeks and couple other storylines in between. So here’s to enjoying both Season 4 Finale this Sunday night, and all the re-reads and new discoveries as we anxiously await the next book and season 5 of the show. Find great reads here.
The Outlander blog gives great insight to the characters. Worth the read while we wait. Is it time yet? Please post the minute we have dates for either the book or next seasons show. Anxiously waiting with you.
PS. – If for some odd reason anyone feels compelled to get rid of thier books, there have been quite a few hurricane victims in several states that have lost thiers in the water and mold that invades in the wake of a hurricane. I was born and raised in Panama city, Florida where hurricane Michael was so devastating. Even though they are no longer making the big headlines please don’t forget them. While there have been many inspirational efforts there they are still very not okay. You can read about it here. There are several links to reliable people on the ground there that are still trying to help those affected. This year the freezing temperatures not typical of Florida are causing real problems with the temporary shelters for those awaiting relocation, rebuilding or possibly FEMA trailers.
Are you looking to amp up your Easter Egg Hunt? As the years have passed, we now have diverse ages of participants. Starting with a 10-year-old 5, and two 2 year olds. So as usual when seeking inspiration I flip over to Pintrest to see what i can find. They never let me down. Everything from non-candy egg fillers to neat coloring technic and several ways to make the hunt more fun.
The Scavenger hunt looks like particular fun for the older girls, while Egg exercises look entertaining for the littlest ones. To make this fun I think we’ll try assigning a specific color to each child. (This will also work well with certain food allergies and sensitivities). Each younger child will need an adult paired with to read the exercises to them and make sure they are done before searching out the next egg.
The older girls will have to figure out and solve the clues to find their next egg. I may even add prizes to give incentive to the fun. It will also engage their parents in the game to entertain and participate in the fun.
Before the big hunt I’m thinking of hosting an Easter Brunch complete with adults only punch. Coffee of course and maybe specialty coffee bar. This will give me the perfect reason to use my new espresso machine I got for Christmas. Regular orange juice for the kids and several selections for brunch itself.
A spinach and bacon Quiche, Easter egg fruit pizza, bunny shaped Orange rolls, and carrot shaped pre-rolled silverware. To make this easy cleanup, The Dollar Store is my go to for Tablecloths, plastic table ware, napkins and plates. I like the idea of very little cleanup. I can remember going to family gatherings and the ladies spent quite a bit of time after dinner putting food away and doing dishes. Even with the dishwasher it still took quite some time and more than one load. It’s not the most environmentally friendly, but in this case throwing away the plates, napkins, and tableware, cloth if need be saves hours that can be spent with little and big ones this Easter.
The phrase “They grow up so fast”, is more true than most of us think. It seems only yesterday of oldest was just learning to walk. She is now getting ready for her first ballet recital.
To one and all I hope these ideas inspire your family fun. To all the hunters out there good luck and happy egg finding. Live, Love, Laugh, as your Easter is filled with wonder, good food and the blessing of family to surround you.
We love ideas and like to keep things fun, new, and exciting, so what do you do for this occasion? Share your traditions, recipes, menus, games, and gifts. We’d love to hear from you. If you like any of their ideas featured here make sure you visit the links to their sites.

Dust off your Easter bonnet, and get ready to put a spring in your step! For those of us in Florida spring temperatures came early again this year, so we get to put on our sunny dispositions now. All the flowers will soon bloom, and so will my allergy season. Cue my box of tissue that go every where with me. My favorite spring fun is watching the children as they help color the eggs, and search for hidden eggs to go in thier baskets. I always hoped to have a little girl just to dress for Easter. Sadly thst will not happen for us. So we live vicariously through our extended family and friends. While the advent of social media makes access to family photo’s much easier, here are several tips to help keep everyone safe.
Sadly, this fun-filled occasions must be tempered to keep our loves safe. I love Easter family photo’s!
- If you use a cell phone to take photos please make sure GPS/location function is turned off in the settings menu.
- Make your profiles private. I love social media, but after my ex-husband started spying on me, mine went to ultra private. The only people who can see anything have to be a friend first and approved by me.
- Tag your private photos to let people allowed know they are online. Control who can see these albums by invite only.
- If sharing even the aforementioned ways do not include child’s name, school, age, or other sensative info. A family member or friend knows any private info about your child. Apparently the bad guys can use this info at a school or other places to help them abduct children easier.
- Do not list the church you attend with your children. I know, I always want to be inclusive and have more members at my church too, alas not over social media posts, with pictures of your children. Cyber safety is both a new and scary reality in our world. Parents and extended family, and friends need to know this info to safeguard tour most vulnerable, just like locking our doors and windows, setting the alarm, or having a secret password that must be given if someone else tries to pick them up.
- Have fun! If you’ve taken these steps before like for school selfies, you’re all set. If not they only take five minutes to do. Relax enjoy the laughter, triumphs, and everything eggs. With the important tasks finished you can focus on coloring eggs, what to put in an Easter basket, and the menu for Easter brunch with familyfamily, the perfect egg hunt before everyone retiring for the evening. So the adults can relax and the children, go to bed dreaming of chocolate bunnies, and multi-colored peeps. Check out Spring cleaning tips, recipes, and easy decoration in our next posts!
Facing the rest of the year ahead.
If you’re like me we look at the year ahead and try to put habits in place that will make it easier to handle. My Pintrest boards are getting lots of added ideas. Every thing from recipes to holiday ideas, and don’t forget to update the calendars. I take this time out to both show myself some love, and get organized. Anyone who knows me has seen me go a little OCD when being organized. I try to start with the basics. Holidays, Anniversarys, home and garden, Birthdays and finance, parties, and other projects throuout the year. I start with the basics.
My planner/engagement/brain for the year. I like a full desk size book. Why paper you ask? In the digital world we live in things like smartphone, tablets, smart tv, and even the laptop & desktop give us access to technology at our fingertips. Paper and pen are still my go to medium. I will probably add it to my digital devices, but for my main list I prefer paper. It’s where I start from. If you’ve ever tried updating or creating a note when you were fast asleep you’ll know why I still keep my pen and paper.
I enjoy daily/weekly/monthly views in my planner. It helps me stay on track with both what I need to do today as well as looking ahead in the week or month. There are a lot of free pages available that can be printed however knowing myself, I would probably take a page out and loose it as I become involved in what ever project I’m currently working on. The last several years I’ve turned to Cat Naps.
It is wire bound so I can leave it open atop my desk for quick daily checkins. I have important dates, appointments, moon cycle, holidays, and contact info that I transfer yearly into everyone. I usually purge or make changes as I go. I know your reading this and saying I have all that in my phone. I do too, but the tangible works better to help me stay on track.
As the bills arrive by mail I enter the due dates, and mail by dates. Jot gift ideas as I come across them by person. I often hear people say I wish I had this or that, if appropriate I make a note of it and the name. As my husband and I do not have 9 to 5s it helps track both income and expenses.
My digital lifesaver is a financial program I read about in a top app review… from
I love it!!! There are lots of competition in this area, probably including your regular bank.
Prism is a safe and secure way to not only keep up with but pay my bills as well. “Prism is the easy personal finance app for managing and paying bills. • “Love, love, love this app! For those of you stranded by Mint Bills…..This IS your life preserver ..”
It gives reminders, schedules payments, income and current balances of both bank accounts and credit cards. It saves me a great deal of time, stamps, and energy. Unlike some I don’t have to go between apps to get all the info I need. it does take some time for initial setup but so worth it! Even locks the info on your phone if you left it up. Keeps prying eyes out of your personal information yet with a pin code it can easily be synced to all your devices.
With these two it’s easy to control the chaos in my world. Well time to finish this up because according to my handy book it says I have more to do before hubby gets home from his job. Weeding recipes for collection cookbook to be ready for Mothers Day, Plan Easter Family Gathering, and take some free time to catch up on my to be read pile of books. What do you do to stay on track in your busy life?? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.
