National TV Dinner Day is observed annually on September 10th. In 1953, C.A. Swanson & Sons changed the prepackaged meal business forever. Introducing the TV Dinner revolutionized frozen food.

In 1962, Swanson stopped using the name TV Dinner. However, in the United States, the term remains synonymous with any prepackaged dinner purchased frozen from a store and heated at home.

The first Swanson TV Dinner consisted of a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, cornbread dressing, peas, and sweet potatoes. Originally, Swansons made the tray of aluminum. They separated each food item into individual compartments, too. At home, the cook heated the dinner in the oven. The cooking time was usually 25 minutes. Today, nearly all frozen food trays can be cooked in the microwave or a conventional oven.

When Swanson’s first sold TV dinners, they priced them at 98 cents. In the first year, production estimates reached 5,000 dinners. To their surprise, Swanson far exceeded that amount. In the first year, they sold more than 10 million of them.

TV Dinner Facts

1960 – Swanson added desserts to a new four-compartment tray.
1964 – Night Hawk name originated from the Night Hawk steak houses that operated in Austin, Texas, from 1939 through 1994. The original diners were open all night, catering to the late-night crowd. The restaurants produced the first frozen Night Hawk TV dinner in 1964.
1969 – The first TV breakfasts were marketed. Great Starts Breakfasts and breakfast sandwiches followed later.
1973 – Swanson markets the first Hungry-Man dinners. The meals included larger portions of its regular dinner products.
1986 – Microwave-oven safe trays debut on the market.
1986 – The Smithsonian Institute inducted the original Swanson TV Dinner tray into the Museum of American History.

Much has changed since the original TV Dinner. They also remain a popular choice for a fast and convenient meal, fun to eat in front of the TV!

Fans across the globe celebrate Star Trek Day on September 8 to remember the timeless legacy Star Trek has made on society and pop culture.

On September 8, 1966, a television series pilot known as Star Trek was introduced on American television. Aiming for an adult audience, this was the was the first time a scientific fiction series would explore morality through scientific narratives. Most movies or television shows would contain science but would often create conflict of suffering and injustice to solve problems. However, Star Trek was different. The series would put actors in the forefront making scientific arguments, while providing peaceful solutions to problems without using violence.

What was the first episode of Star Trek? In a galaxy far, far away “The Man Trap” aired as the pilot episode for Star Trek: The Original Series. Though the series intention was to be a fictional story, Star Trek would become a futuristic franchise, showcasing humans living in harmony with space and Earth.

National WebMistress Day recognizes women in web development on August 26th.

A WebMistress is a woman who designs, develops, markets and maintains websites. The term has existed since the mid-1990s. In June of 1995, the term officially entered technology’s lexicon. That month, Kat Valentine secured the domain name WebMistress.com. Taking the name a step further, Valentine then began web development under the job title WebMistress. Comparatively, the term WebMaster arrived on the scene as early as 1986, according to various classified ads.

Now, thousands of women work under the job title WebMistress. More than 20 years later, the word still raises eyebrows. However, WebMistress has a place not only on the résumé but is a legitimate job title in the business world. Take the time to acknowledge the women in web development to promote the job title in the business and lose the stigma associated with the word.

I taught myself both web design and blogging. After not being able to have a regular or structured job I was trying to figure out what I could handle. My health disabilities keep me from a normal job. So, I once again considered web design.

I’ve dabbled over the years and while I may not be capable of some things my computer skills are still there just a little more dusty….lol. Timelines, strict schedules, and other stresses dont work for me so I started this blog as a hobby.

SEO, affiliate marketing, social media management, promoter, and other aspects were a foreign language. I’m still learning but I’ve gained a basic understanding and best of my hard work has paid off at least a little. My readership and views have increased and my page views are still climbing. I even gained a few high profile fans.

So while I can’t handle the everyday rigors if a 9 – 5 job this gives me the flexibility to work at my own pace. Now, if I can just learn to make it pay better than a hobby…. please remember to follow and share if you’ve found both this article and my blog.

Social Media Day is observed annually on June 30th. In its short life, social media has redefined how people interact, communicate, and share with family, friends, and the world.

With the launch of Friendster in 2002 and MySpace in 2003, social media became mainstream. Then 2004 brought the founding of the king of social media, Facebook. Twitter encouraged us to be succinct by posting our thoughts with fewer than 140 characters. When we express ourselves better through imagery, Instagram, and Flickr offer all the sharing we can handle. And speaking of video, YouTube is the social place for everything from how-to to pop culture to what not to do with your fireworks on the 4th of July.

Social media makes it possible to stay connected and informed about those important people in our lives. Reconnecting with classmates, past work associates, and more is also a valuable part of social media. It has also made it possible to connect with ancestors and find relatives you never even knew existed. Yes, the family tree has become a social media platform as well. MyHeritage.com, Ancestry.com, and many others all supply a social platform where distant family members potentially meet and build their family trees.

The Internet has long loved food, and social media is no different. Pinterest, Tumblr, and WordPress share and socialize about the latest accessible and exciting food trends. This may be the most addicting part of social media. One moment a picture of a decadent, perfectly golden roast duck comes across your news feed. In an instant, the complete video detailing how to execute this delicacy in 17 easy steps is provided for you. One tweet later and you are off to the butcher. In a Snapchat -Instagram -Tumblr hour, you destroy your kitchen and end up with a Pinterest board titled “They Lied.”

Each year on April 28th, National Superhero Day honors superheroes, both real and fictional.

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Spiderman are just some of the superheroes whose names we recognize. Star Wars, Star Trek, Even though they are fictional, these superheroes are great role models for our children. They serve and protect while fighting evil. Your hero can come from another world or even time,if you fancy a certain Scottish Highlander from the 1700’s.

Our real-life superheroes may not have superpowers or wear capes, but they are also great role models who serve and protect while fighting evil. Military personnel, police officers, firefighters, and teachers are just a few of the heroes who protect us on a daily basis.

Make sure first responders and medical personnel are included. As we have seen first hand in very recent times how hard they fight for us. Paramedics, nurses, Dr’s, and med-tech’s out there helping us beat Coronavirus.

Take your favorite superhero to lunch and say thank you for all they do. Let them know that you appreciate them. Share what you think makes a hero. Take a picture with your favorite hero.
