INNERGIZE DAY

Innergize Day on the day after the Autumnal Equinox offers an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. This is a day for you!

Since fall has officially arrived, it’s time to shift gears. The fast pace of summer activities passes by now. Languid autumn days provide tranquil sunsets and peaceful moments. These are the times to focus on your personal well-being. Do things you enjoy that make you feel good about yourself. Let stress and worry fade away for the day.

The day is an excellent time to look inward. Whether you rejuvenate your spiritual connections or develop mindfulness, refocusing your energy can have huge benefits. After trying to cram every activity into a few short months, we sometimes lose focus. Fall allows us to take a deep breath and be more mindful of our bodies, spirits, and the world around us.

National Relaxation Day

Most of us need this on a pretty regular basis.  That’s what a vacation is for right?  But there is an official day for relaxation.  August 15th is the day, so here are some great ways to unwind.

As this is considered a national holiday, sorry school and work still on, its a great opportunity to look into ways to destress your day. By all means these methods work on normal days too.

Meditation

Meditation is a habitual process of quieting your mind and focusing on redirecting your thoughts.

Mediations can increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration. 15 minutes of deep meditation can energize you like a nap. People also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns and even increased pain tolerance.

I learned some really good technics when I took professional yoga. You do not have to use yoga or religion based meditation to get the benefits. Simple mindfulness meditation focus on your breathing and body. As you become more focused, you notice more about them. For instance you may notice your breathing a little fast, your heart rate is high or your blood pressure is elevated. Now that you’re focusing on it you can lower those symptoms. You’ll feel the state of your body. You’re muscles may say you twisted the wrong way, or over did it chasing the kids.

Visualations

Visualization or visualisation (see spelling differences) is any technique for creating imagesdiagrams, or animations to communicate a message. Visualization through visual imagery has been an effective way to communicate both abstract and concrete ideas since the dawn of humanity. Examples from history include cave paintingsEgyptian hieroglyphs, Greek geometry, and Leonardo da Vinci‘s revolutionary methods of technical drawing for engineering and scientific purposes.

NATIONAL COLORING BOOK DAY

National Coloring Book Day on August 2nd recognizes the joy children and adults alike derive from coloring in pages of designs.

Coloring and coloring books have always been popular with children, but over the years, adults have gotten more and more involved with coloring. Obviously, adult coloring is now a huge trend. Many find that it is not only fun but also a great way to reduce stress.

With so many colors and designs to choose from, coloring offers enjoyment in so many settings. They’re portable and come in a variety of sizes. Take coloring books on vacation with you for rainy days or to document a fun memory.

For the technology enthusiasts out there you can even download an app on your phone. At the doctor’s office, or wherever you may be this digital version keeps the pages and colors at your fingertips.

Coloring books also make great gifts all year long. When someone visits, be sure to leave a coloring book and colors in the guest room for downtime. At the office, keep a variety of books in the breakroom for co-workers to fill up.

NATIONAL COLORING BOOK DAY HISTORY

Dover Publications created National Coloring Book Day in May 2015. Founded in 1941, Dover Publications leads the way. Dover released their first coloring book for adults, Antique Automobiles Coloring Book, in 1970. Dover now publishes Creative Haven®, a popular line of coloring books specially designed for adult colorists.

NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY

Every day, hundreds of our military personnel leave the service in search of civilian employment. On July 25th, National Hire A Veteran Day reminds employers to consider veterans to fill their open positions. As highly trained, qualified individuals, they’re ideal for numerous trades.

Legislation protects separating service members as they enter the civilian workforce. However, the best way a potential employer can honor a veteran is to hire one!

While other service members continue to serve in points unknown, the day provides their returning brothers and sisters with an opportunity. Many skills gained in the military world transfer to the civilian world. Both small and large businesses benefit from the talent of our veterans, too. Regardless of the position, find qualified candidates in a range of fields. For example:

  • Information Technology
  • Engineering
  • Cyber Security
  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Finance
  • Healthcare
  • Skilled Trades

NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY HISTORY

Marine Corps veteran Dan Caporale, founder of Hire Our Heroes, also founded National Hire a Veteran Day. The day serves as a call to action to hire more veterans! By spreading awareness and creating the #1 Veteran Job Board platform, Hire Our Heroes has become the connective tissue linking corporate America to our veterans. It also supports the job searches of veteran spouses looking for employment.

Veterans deserve the ultimate respect. They have and continue to sacrifice in the fight to preserve the freedoms we enjoy. Try honoring these dates as well.

NATIONAL CAFFEINE AWARENESS MONTH

National Caffeine Awareness Month in March reminds us that our fifth cup of java may be harmful to our health.

While sticking to just one cup still has its benefits. When our blood pressure is up, or stomach acid bothers us, sometimes we need to give up the morning pick-me-up.  But do we?

This stimulant that provides jolts of energy throughout the day may not be offering the perk it once did. We can build up a tolerance and require more to feel the same boost.

Consider your sources and how much it takes to derive a benefit from the good ol’ bean these days. Take a daily tally of your total caffeine intake from all sources. Do you only have two cups? Or after careful consideration, is your caffeine intake substantially higher?

Possible sources:
  • Sodas
  • Tea
  • Chocolate/cocoa
  • Guarana/energy drinks
  • Coffee

Remember, to include caffeine incorporated into our foods. Caffeine isn’t taken out of the coffee ice cream we enjoy before bed. If you wonder why you can’t sleep, that might be why.  Don’t be surprised when you order an extra large sweet tea at lunch and get the jitters and sweats during a meeting with the boss.

All these circumstances add up to our total caffeine intake and contribute to sleepless nights, increased blood pressure and stomach acid. However, studies show caffeine in moderation can be beneficial.

According to a study by the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University researchers summarize that 3-4 cups equivalent to 300-400 milligrams of caffeine per day offer few health risks. The Mayo Clinic concurs.
