NATIONAL LIPSTICK DAY

National Lipstick Day on July 29th encourages you to wear your best color. For some, lipstick is the only makeup requirement. Whether sheer and light, dark or bright, July 29th calls for all kinds of lipstick.

Throughout the ages, controversy surrounded lipstick. British Parliament banned it in 1770 calling it a devilish attempt to trick men into marriage. In some circles, lipstick was associated with witchcraft. Occasionally, lipstick contained poisonous materials.

It is said Sarah Bernhardt created a scandal by applying “lip rouge” in public. Surprisingly, George Washington supposedly wore lipstick. While Queen Victoria considered wearing lipstick impolite, one of her statesmen had a different opinion. During World War II, Winston Churchill thought the lip color boosted morale in an excellent way.

Of course, versatility is lipstick’s brand. It changes with a mood or with the scenery. Whether lipstick defines your attitude or channels your inner spirit, wear it on July 29th. No matter your style, lipstick adds a subtle accent or a bold statement. Let your lips speak. However, punctuate it with your lipstick.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Decorating Tips and Ideas

  • Form a painting club. Each member gets a room painted by the club. An ideal size would be six members. If you paint one room every other month, everyone gets a room painted in a year. The member whose room is being painted provides snacks and painting supplies.
  • If you smoke in your home and are trying to quit smoking, a great motivator is to paint the interior of your home. The freshly painted (and possibly decorated) home may be a deterrent from smoking in the home.
  • If you’re uncertain of a color choice, purchase a small amount of the paint or swatch of fabric. Paint a small patch or leave the swatch in the room where it will be used.  Let the sun rise and set in that room so you can see how the color changes.  You will soon know if you love it or hate it.
  • When choosing furniture for a room, be sure to measure more than just the space for the furniture when deciding on a piece. Measure the openings and corners leading into the room even if there are no stairs. If you cannot get the furniture into the room, you may have to return your new furniture.

Don’t settle for a plain square room. Add your personality to it with some expert advice or do-it-yourself redesign.  Use #NationalDecoratingMonth to share on social media.

NATIONAL WEAR YOUR PEARLS DAY

National Wear Your Pearls Day on December 15th reminds us that when life throws dirt our way, we all have value in the end. The beautiful result of nature’s design, one irritating grain of sand can cause an iridescent pearl to form.

Today Pearl’s come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Cultured freshwater Pearl’s make them affordable and with enough variety for everyone. Make sure you consult a good jeweler for care and up keep. While they remind us of our strength and value the pearls themselves are a delicate gemstone.

If it is a pearl pendant on a traditional chain, or the classic strand, enjoy the beauty that are Pearl’s. If your looking for a strand to make your own, choose those that are knotted in between. The last thing you want is to live one of those scenes where it breaks and pearls go everywhere.

Like a lot of women I inherited a strand. They are beautiful and quite old. I wore them on my wedding day. While we have not been blessed with children, I’ll pass them down to one of my niece’s for here wedding day. There is something very special about passing jewelry that’s been in a family for up to hundreds and hundreds of years when cared for.
