NATIONAL EARTH DAY

Each year on April 22nd, National Earth Day campaigns around the globe promote ways to keep the Earth healthy and our planet livable.

Since its inception, the organizers promote events educating the public about a variety of subjects including:

  • climate change
  • air pollution
  • water pollution
  • erosion
  • recycling
  • composting
  • renewable fuels and power
  • carbon footprints
  • efficient cars
  • rain forests
  • ecosystems

As citizens of the world, we can take action to protect the Earth, its creatures, and its habitats. Greener living can include more fuel-efficient vehicles or windows. It can also include landscaping for your climate reducing the amount of water required.

Numerous green campaigns launch events around the globe each year. Join one near you or organize one that fits your community’s needs.

NATIONAL EARTH DAY HISTORY

In 1969, the concept of Earth Day was established at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. On March 21, 1970, a sanctioned Proclamation was signed by Secretary-General U Thant at the United Nations. A month later, on April 22, 1970, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day. While National Earth Day is not considered a national holiday we encourage you to learn more.

Environmentalists held rallies in large cities around the country. The observance became a global event in 1990 and hasn’t stopped since.

WORLD FLOUR DAY

On March 20th, World Flour Day recognizes the importance of flour in our daily diets and our health. In every part of the world, products made from flour provide daily sustenance for billions of people.

Flour is the main ingredient in delicious foods like pasta, cakes, pastries, bread, and biscuits. For thousands of years, humans have consumed grains ground into flour. Ancient humans gathered the oat kernels growing wild around them. Using a stone tool much like a pestle, they crushed the kernels into a coarse flour.

Today, we continue to enjoy many varieties of domesticated grains. In the Northern Hemisphere, many farms prepare to plant these grain crops around March 20th. The earth is warming and ready to grow. In the Southern Hemisphere, autumn has arrived. The grains have ripened, and harvest is beginning.

The day honors the farmers and millers, shippers and truckers, processors and bakers who bring the white gold to our tables. It’s a day for gratitude, and one of hope as the seeds are sown, and harvests are reaped.

WORLD FLOUR DAY HISTORY

The Flour World Museum founded World Flour Day on March 20th in 2019 to celebrate the global significance of flour in our daily lives.

About the Flour World Museum

The Flour World Museum in Wittenburg near Hamburg, Germany, has set itself the goal of creating a monument to flour in all its globe-spanning significance. After all, some 750 million tonnes of wheat flour are harvested each year and turned into a wide variety of foods.

National Flour Month

National Flour Month in March is a time to recognize the versatility of this ground staple kitchen item. Grab your apron and start celebrating!

It’s been thousands of years since humans learned they could mill wheat seed between stones into flour. While wheat is the most common variety of flour, corn, peas, potatoes, nuts, and other grains are also used to produce flour, too.

We use flour to make baked goods, pasta, crackers, pastries, and sauces. As a key ingredient in many recipes, flour fills canisters in a well-stocked kitchen.

A loaf of homemade bread would fill the home with an aroma of yeasty goodness in the middle of March. However, flour doesn’t limit us to bread baking. Perhaps we thicken a stew with freshly made noodles and wrap up the day with piping hot pie. Whatever we decide, we know with the right ingredients and the right amount of flour everything will be delicious.

NATIONAL PROMPOSAL DAY

On March 11th, National Promposal Day prompts the ultimate question each year. “Will you go to prom with me?” It’s the day for high school students across North America to craft their unique invitation to the event of the year.

Prom takes a lot of planning. That includes finding the right tux, the right dress, shoes, and accessories. Does mom teach you how to dance or do you take a dance class? Do you borrow dad’s car or rent a limo? Those are just a few of the details. But that’s getting ahead of the plan. First, ask the question on March 11th, #NationalPromposalDay.

NATIONAL PROMPOSAL DAY HISTORY

In 2016, Men’s Wearhouse founded National Promposal Day on March 11th to inspire high school students to create the ultimate promposal.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PROMPOSAL DAY

Prom is one of the most memorable times in high school. Start it off right with an exceptional promposal. Rehearse it or wing it, but get out there and ask! I know here in Florida, there are quite a few place encouraging solar panels. They can reduce your carbon footprint and in some cases save you some money too. Our power company also gives an option to get our electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

The best idea I’ve seen are solar panels you can drive on… imagine replacing roads and parking lots with something like this. Retail giants could take advantage of this technology and make thier parking lots this way. I hope to see this perfected and more cost effective. We would love to do this to our long driveway.
