Common Sense Day

Are you familiar with the saying “common sense is not that common”? Celebrate this rarely used quality on November 4, Common Sense Day.

My favorite saying is

Common sense is a flower that does not grow in everyone’s garden.

As you watch the news, surf the internet, or simply read the latest Google headlines, I’m sure most if us have shook our heads, laughed, or the phrase “Really” a utured out loud. Common sense has become both more talked about and something becoming more lacking in encounters every day.

Growing up this skill was taught along with lots of practical skills for life. Our parents taught us about real world living do we could grow and mature into responsible adults. Today the news is filled with stunning examples where for some reason this was missed. Is it because we’ve become more focused on technology? I’d like to think no, however the wealth of young adults lacking these skills that are entering the world should give serious reservations about humanities future.

While this is meant to be a fun holiday, recognize that these skills are being lost at an alarming rate. Have you ever worked with someone who threw away an article of clothing because it’s missing a button? I have.

Common Sense, Thomas Paine
Common Sense (Books of American Wisdom) Hardcover – July 1, 2002

The date coincides with the birth date of actor Will Rogers who was thought to have coined this phrase.

How to Celebrate?

  • Well, what can we say? Use your common sense to celebrate this unofficial holiday.

Most important try to teach it to those around you. They may not say it today, but their future selves will likely thank you for it.

What’s Your Passion?

Do you have a passion for something? Maybe it’s being a mom, crafting, books, gardening, etc. A great way to express your passions is through your own blog. This gives you the chance to tell others about what you love. It’s one of the biggest and growing trends on the internet.

You can have your own price of internet space.

Did you know some people get paid to write as a freelance writer or promote products that you use? Does this sounds like you? If so you’ll want to not only write great content, but share it with your friends. Once upon a time this was hard to do. With the development of social media it’s easier than ever. As a blogger for the past 2 years I’ve learned a few tricks along the way.

Ok, so if you’ve searched on places like Google or Pintrest, you’ve seen thousands of entries about blogging. Most tell you how easy it is and give suggestions like I am, “What is the difference you ask? I am only recommending what I actually use. I’ve studied and tried quite a few to find what works the best for me.

Okay so you’ve made the hard choices and even written the posts. Now what? The best way to get viewers is to tell your friends. Start sharing the news on your social media pages. I use a little help with this. I use Postify. It saves me tons of time and work. Again I can do it from my phone if needed. Best of all I can schedule it to share across social media while I’m still in bed. Get Postify here.

With these tools you can easily tell the world just like you do with your best friend. Do I have all the answers?  Nope, but I have enough that several business’s have contacted me asking for me to do it for them. If you decide this might be for you welcome to the club. If not then express your passions as you choose. Wether you keep it to yourself or share it with the world, find the spark that lies within you.

Back to School

Starting Kindergarten, finishing Elementary, heading for Middle School, stepping onto a High School or University campus, it’s that time of year. As summer heads into fall we prepare for the school year ahead.

I know things have changed since I was in school, but the importance of an education was always encouraged in our home. Growing up we were encouraged to shoot for the stars and nothing we wanted to do, be it artist, doctor, nurse, lawyer, astronaught, musician, historian, yoga instructor, writer, or even the next Bill Gates, was always attainable. Now computers take a much more central role in education. Some learn the same curriculum exclusively online in programs like Florida’s K -12 program.

I also have to say if you are homeschooling or considering it, you have my hearty encouragement. My siblings and I started out first in a private school then public. When I was in 3rd grade that changed. My brother was having challenges. (This was before so many things like ADHD, dyslexia, and others became common knowledge.) My mother devoted herself to helping us both with anything we needed. Whether just some homework questions, or entire big concepts that we were not understanding in school. By the end of that year she was spending several hours teaching what they were doing at school. She decided that if she had to spend all that time doing the job, why was she sending us to school?

Check here for the rules, requirements and support in your state.

It was one of the best experiences ever! Not only did we learn at a higher level, we had a rounded curriculum that included, music, socializing with a group of 40 families who were also homeschooling, field trips and things not typically taught now. We went to zoos and museums, wrote book reports, we wrote and published our own newsletter. Birthday parties, libraries, science experiments, and a schedule that still saw us out the door when our friends arrived home thier schools.

When the word homeschooling is mentioned by some, they give a disapproving context. Claims of missing out on the social skills learned in other school settings, is one of the most frequent. I can 100% tell you in my experiences this was absolutely false.

Whatever the case may be the importance of education cannot be denied. Private, Public, Correspondence, Home, or other help prepare you stars to shine brightly in the academic world and later in life.

I’m admitting it, my mother was right! Education helped me become a success later in life. It also taught me to be tenacious while not giving up when life gets challenging. While unforeseen health issues have affected my ability to physically fly to the moon, I have not stopped reaching for the stars.

I hope everyone gets the same encouragement we did. As a help to parents and children everywhere, I’ve compiled 3q33 2esupply lists and provided links to Amazon. Skip the traffic, and the heat while your fingers do the walking. Get it all shipped directly to your door.
