On August 29, honor expertise, authority, and the rules because it is According to Hoyle Day. Titled after the English language phrase, according to Hoyle, the unofficial holiday celebrates the life and times of Englishman Edmond Hoyle, who died on this day in 1769.

A lawyer by trade, Edmond Hoyle is best known for publishing books detailing the rules and regulations of many popular card and board games of his time, including chess and backgammon. He is also known for writing an authoritative pamphlet on the card game of Whist.

Game of Skills

Whist is a trick card game played by two teams of two players each. The card game evolved from a previous game called Ruff and Honors and is the predecessor of Bridge. Popular in the 18th and the 19th century, the game required mathematical and logical skills.

No Interruptions Day on the last workday of the year sets aside the day to get organized for the new year by cleaning up your workspace without interruptions.  

This is the day set aside for cleaning out emails, tossing long-saved memos, and delegating those tasks that, well, just need to be delegated. Clear out those menial tasks that you dread. Get them finished and cleared off your to-do list. 

Everyone’s to-do list is different. The very nature of our job dictates what we consider organized and cleared workspace. One career may be facing new regulations while another looks at all new technology to learn. A day without interruption allows us to focus on big things and small. 

However, some people use this day to focus hard on those end-of-year tasks that always seem to slip through the cracks. Often these are the details of work one pushes off until the last minute. And today is that last minute.

Feel like BBQ? Fon’t want to deal with the heat, bugs and out doors? These set it and forget it barbecue ribs will become a favorite.

3-5 lbs pork or beef ribs

1 can coke or ginger ale (my secret to melt in your mouth tender) I use diet.

Your favorite bbq sauce. We love half Baby Ray’s and half KC Masterpiece.

Put ribs in bottom of crock pot. Pour soda on top. Let sit 5 minutes before adding sauce.

Turn on low for 6 hours. Enjoy juicy tender bbq ribs with your favorite side. These are so good and so easy they are an easy weeknight meal.
