On November 12th, warm up some au jus and celebrate National French Dip Day!

Served up hot, tender slices of beef or pork on a French roll make up a delicious sandwich. Sometimes cheese is added. However, the key ingredients are the au jus and spicy mustard. The combination of tender beef swimming in a flavor bath of pan drippings absorbed into the crusty roll makes the French dip a decadent, multi-napkin experience everyone needs to have.

I’m making mine at home. The ingredients were not very hard to find. I’m adding sauted mushrooms, bell peppers and carmelized onions topped with baby swiss cheese. With layers of succulent roast beef on that roll. A little bit of spicy mustard and dipped in warm aus jus is just what we want for dinner tonight.

Cole’s French Dip, the originator of the French Dip sandwich, founded National French Dip Day in 2018 in honor of the 110th anniversary of their opening on November 12, 1908, in historic downtown Los Angeles.
