NATIONAL PEPPER MONTH

National Pepper Month is an annual designation observed in November. There are hundreds of different ways to enjoy these crunchy, appetizing fruits. Yes, you heard me right. Peppers are fruits, not vegetables because of the seeds they contain. Either way, though, they can be enjoyed with both sweet and salty meals and are incredibly healthy for you.

Read the list below to find out some of the greatest health benefits of peppers.

  1. They’re low in calories, so you can eat a whole cup of them and it’ll only add up to about 45 calories. Plus, if you do that, you’ll get more than the recommended amount of vitamin A & C in a day!
  2. They keep your skin youthful and glowing with all the vitamin C they carry.
  3. Eating peppers can reduce bad cholesterol, control diabetes, bring pain relief, and reduce inflammation. This is because of the capsaicin they contain.
  4. They also contain vitamin B6, which promotes a healthy nervous system and helps renew cells.
  5. Lutein and other enzymes bell peppers contain protect the eyes from cataracts and macular degeneration.

Peppers are related to chili peppers (obviously), tomatoes, and breadfruit, all of which are native to Central and South America. They come in a variety of beautiful, vibrant colors like bright red, green, yellow, and orange, and have a crunchy, satisfying texture. So, what’s stopping you?! Add peppers to your daily or weekly diet this month for a healthy, fresh addition. You might just get hooked!

Know I know that peppers are technically a fruit but let’s face it the savory combination of onions, pepper, and garlic was established way before I was even born. It’s usually found as a flavor base in everything from spaghetti sauce to casseroles. Here are some others to enjoy.

Jennifer lives happily in North Florida with her husband Scott and after a stroke and two brain surgeries her mom. While not blessed with children they dote on their four legged children four cats. I started writing after spinal surgery required second round of physical therapy to learn to walk yet again. While reading is a favorite hobby writing is something new with the launch of this blog and hopefully a fiction novel in the future.
